Terms of Service
Effective date: 1 January 2026 · Jurisdiction: Republic of South Africa
1. Who we are
Booksmith is a career-pathway platform operated from South Africa. These Terms govern your use of the Booksmith website and services (collectively, the "Platform"). By creating an account or using the Platform you agree to these Terms.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Platform. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must have consented to these Terms on your behalf. By using the Platform, you confirm that you meet these requirements.
3. Your account
You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at support@booksmith.co.za if you suspect unauthorised access.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Post content that is false, defamatory, harassing, or illegal under South African law
- Impersonate another person or organisation
- Scrape, harvest, or systematically download Platform content without permission
- Attempt to circumvent security controls or access another user's account
- Use the Platform to distribute spam or unsolicited messages
5. User content
You retain ownership of content you post (profile information, CV data, feed posts). You grant Booksmith a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store and display your content for the purpose of providing the Platform. We will not sell your content to third parties.
6. Intellectual property
All Platform software, design, and course content (unless otherwise attributed) is the property of Gryffindor or its licensors and may not be reproduced without written permission.
7. Disclaimer of warranties
The Platform is provided "as is." We make no warranty that it will be error-free, uninterrupted, or free from viruses. Career information, AI coaching output, and mentor advice are for guidance only and do not constitute professional advice.
8. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by South African law, Gryffindor's liability for any claim arising from your use of the Platform is limited to the amount you paid us in the three months preceding the claim.
9. Termination
We may suspend or close accounts that violate these Terms. You may delete your account at any time from your account settings.
10. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any disputes will be resolved in South African courts.
11. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify registered users by email at least 14 days before material changes take effect. Continued use after that date constitutes acceptance.
